PHILLIPS CHAPEL METHODIST CHURCH
Cemetery
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Phillips Chapel UMC is thought to have been organized prior to 1849 and
was called "Methodist Episcopal, South" on the old deed to the property.
The church is located approximately 6 miles east of Graham off NC 54 on
Brucewood Road, at the intersection of Brucewood Road and Phillips
Chapel Road. Tradition asserts that graves were on the property prior to
1849. Most of the family names are those of original settlers in the
community who emigrated from Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and
Eastern North Carolina.
