Remnant of Beckwourth trail removed from Reno-area land sale

Remnant of historic trail removed from Reno-area land sale: "The remnant of a pioneer trail near Reno that's believed to still bear the marks of California-bound settlers has been removed from Washoe County's surplus auction block.
A stretch of the Jim Beckwourth Trail about the length of three football fields had been included in a 3.3 acre parcel. It includes a 300-yard swale or depression in the soft ground left by wagon trains.
The county bought it as a potential site for a new juvenile detention center, which since has been built elsewhere. County commissioners agreed Tuesday to preserve the land.
