Beckwith comes from the name De Malebisse. This change occurred in the year 1225. It was done by a descendant of Hugo De Malebisse. The name is prononced: "Malebee" with three syllables and the center "e" being short in sound. It is thought that the name comes from the Becket (?) Chappel. To further this accersion, the family crest is identicle between the two families.
If anyone has proof to dispute this, please let me know. It has been quite well documented.
